EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Cheryl Morinec, Accounting Manager
Q: What is your current role/occupation?
A: Accounting Manager. I am the person behind the curtain, making sure all the numbers behave themselves. Think of me as a financial translator: I take the chaos and turn it into something that actually makes sense. The numbers do not always cooperate, but they have learned who is in charge.
Q: What do you like to do to unwind?
A: Full transparency: I am not really an unwinder. I am one of those people who is happiest when busy and moving. My version of relaxing looks like planning a vacation, starting a craft project, or building a detailed spreadsheet for something that absolutely did not need a spreadsheet. It got one anyway. It has color-coded tabs. It is gorgeous. I regret nothing.
Q: How do you sum up your work?
A: Excel spreadsheets. If it cannot be organized into a spreadsheet, I am not entirely convinced it is real. There is something deeply satisfying about a well-built workbook with color-coded tabs and perfectly balanced columns. It is basically my love language, and no, I do not think that is a problem.
Q: What’s the biggest personal change you’ve ever made?
A: There are two moments that divided my life into before and after. The first was losing my 17-year-old nephew. The second was the day I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Both shook me to my core and changed everything. But what came out of those experiences was a clarity I never expected. I chose to stop letting small things steal my energy. I promised myself to enjoy each day for exactly what it is, not what I wish it were or what I am afraid it might become. Just what it is. That shift has been the greatest gift. The small stuff does not stand a chance with me anymore.
Q: What do you love the most about your line of work?
A: Everything is figureoutable. That is truly how I see it. No matter how complicated or messy a financial puzzle gets, there is always a path to clarity. And yes, nine times out of ten, that path runs straight through an Excel spreadsheet. The other one time? It was also a spreadsheet. I just did not want to seem predictable.
Q: Where is your hometown?
A: The East Side of Chicago, born and raised. It shaped everything about me: my work ethic, my directness, my love of a deep dish, and my ability to survive winter weather that would send most people into full crisis mode. Chicago people are built different. We just do not talk about it. Except right now. We are talking about it.
Q: What is your favorite flooring?
A: Karndean’s Opus in Casablanca SP219 is absolutely stunning, and I would love nothing more than to have it in my laundry room. The pattern is bold, unexpected, and genuinely joyful. Because even a laundry room deserves to look amazing. The socks are still going to disappear in there, but at least the floor will be beautiful.
Q: What is your favorite flooring in your house?
A: Karndean’s Van Gogh Rigid Core in Silver Farmhouse Oak has my whole heart. Between my dogs doing their absolute best impression of a demolition crew and years of kids treating the house like an obstacle course, I needed a floor that could take a serious beating and still look like it belongs in a magazine. This one delivered on every count. Gorgeous look, tough as nails, and guests still compliment it while my dogs are standing right there taking zero accountability.
Cheryl Morinec is a Chicago girl through and through, East Side born and raised, with the work ethic to match. She joined Creative Carpet & Flooring in November 2025 as Accounting Manager and knew the moment she walked out of her interview with Tammy that she had found her forever home. Numbers are her thing, spreadsheets are her love language, and staying busy is her version of a spa day. She spent ten years stepping away from accounting to coach her daughter’s competitive gymnastics team, raised what she will tell you are some truly amazing humans, and has faced life’s hardest moments with a perspective and grace that clearly shapes how she shows up every single day. She chooses joy, she chooses gratitude, and the small stuff simply does not stand a chance with her. When she is not making the numbers behave, you will likely find her at Disney, planning her next trip to Disney, or eating Tachos from Woody’s Lunchbox and wondering why anyone would ever eat anything else. She loves her coworkers like family and HomeGoods like a second home. Cheryl is, in the best possible way, a lot, and Creative Carpet & Flooring is better for it.
