There’s a crisis happening right here in Northwest Indiana, and most people don’t even know about it. Homeless children in Northwest Indiana are growing up without stable homes, and one local organization is working tirelessly to help them.

For nearly 9 years, Creative Carpet & Flooring has partnered with Grace Beyond Borders NWI, Inc. in East Chicago through our annual Thanksgiving food drives and Winter Warmth Coat Drives. Throughout this partnership, we’ve seen firsthand the incredible work founder Marcus Martin and his team do for families in crisis. Now, they’re reaching out with an urgent need, and we’re asking our community to help.

A 9-Year-Old’s Prayer That Changes Everything

Recently, a 9-year-old girl whose family fell into homelessness was staying at Grace Beyond Borders’ Women and Children Mission. One morning, she asked if she could lead the prayer. What happened next brought tears to everyone in the room:

“Thank you GOD for keeping me and my family together. We have gone through a lot of bad and hard stuff. I am asking you for protection every day as we breathe, while we walk the earth. I am begging YOU for a nice place for my family to go to, like this shelter…”

This precious child’s spontaneous prayer reveals the heartbreaking reality that homeless children in Northwest Indiana face every day. In fact, these aren’t statistics at all. Rather, these are real kids in our community who deserve safety, stability, and hope.

Grace Beyond Borders HOPE

Supporting Homeless Families and Children in Northwest Indiana

Between January and September 2025, Grace Beyond Borders has served 132 children from 46 families who are currently growing up homeless in Northwest Indiana. As a result, that’s 132 kids without a permanent place to call home. Additionally, these are 132 children who go to bed each night uncertain about their future.

Moreover, these are families just like yours and mine who have faced unexpected hardships and need a helping hand to get back on their feet.

Helping Homeless Children in Northwest Indiana: The $12 Campaign

Grace Beyond Borders is celebrating their 12th year of serving our community, and consequently, they’ve launched a campaign to help these families in crisis. Specifically, they’re asking for something simple but powerful: $12 or more.

Furthermore, you can donate monthly or make a one-time gift of $12 or more to provide shelter, meals, support services, and hope to homeless children and their families in Northwest Indiana.

Marcus Martin’s goal is to reach 1,000 donors. In other words, if 1,000 people each gave just $12, that’s $12,000 that could transform lives and answer prayers like that little girl’s.

Why Creative Carpet & Flooring Is Helping Spread the Word

For nearly a decade, we’ve supported Grace Beyond Borders because we believe in their mission. Over the years, we’ve collected food for their Thanksgiving drives. Likewise, we’ve gathered coats to keep families warm in winter. As a result of this partnership, we’ve seen how they restore dignity and hope to people who need it most.

When Marcus reached out asking for help with this campaign, we knew immediately that we had to do everything we could to spread the word. After all, these homeless families and children in Northwest Indiana need us, and Grace Beyond Borders needs to reach 1,000 donors to meet this critical need.

As Proverbs 14:31 reminds us: “…whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”
