Why do flooring warranties matter

The warranties and care guides help ensure your flooring last as long as possible.

It is imperative that you follow your flooring’s care and maintenance instructions to a ‘T’ to support a valid warranty claim if you ever need to.

If not, you are at risk of voiding the warranty altogether. Things like using the correct vacuum are essential along with how often you vacuum. What cleaner you use on your hardsurface is important, too. You don’t want to give the flooring manufacturer any reason to deny your claim.

One question that we ask all our customers is where you are installing the flooring.

The reason is, we want to help you choose a flooring designed to withstand certain foot traffic levels. Avoid selecting a flooring that isn’t designed to withstand what it is intended for. It will wear out too fast, and the warranty won’t cover it. Also, when it comes to carpet, there are often limitations or exclusions on matting and crushing.

Speaking of carpet...

One big one is making sure you are having your carpet professionally cleaned every 12-18 months. If not, this will void the manufacturer's warranty. We offer our carpet cleaning service and are familiar with what to and not to do. We'll make sure the manufacturer warranty stays intact. We also keep a record in case you ever need proof for a claim.

The warranties and care guides help ensure your flooring last as long as possible.

We have many of the popular flooring brands warranties and care guides here at our showroom. Feel free to contact us to obtain a copy for the brand and style of flooring you purchased. If you think you might have a flooring defect, please call us and we will come out and inspect your issue.

The manufacturer will ask us if the issue is defect related before they will even acknowledge a claim. The manufacturer might send their own representative to evaluate the problem. Please be patient because sometimes the claim process can take a few weeks.

It is helpful to have the following documentation when filing a claim:

  • description of the problem in writing
  • pictures of the issue
  • proof of purchase (which we can help you with)
  • for carpet, receipts showing proof of professional hot water extraction cleanings

Once you submit everything to support your claim and the manufacturer validates it, they may pro-rate your reimbursement. It will depend on how old your flooring is when you filed your claim. Usually, warranties cover material only, so you might be responsible for paying anything additional (installation, moving furniture, removal and disposal, delivery, etc.) Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will do everything we can to help you!
